Combat Hurricane

So, before moving on to converting Juri's 1e adventuring career into 2e deeds and such, I think I'm actually going pull out a series of charts I put together once upon a time to figure out a little bit about Juri's webcomic and the anime that was eventually based on it. So, I didn't know too much about save a couple of things: she borrowed from the adventures of herself and other Legendary types for her story arcs, it was an interdimensional shounen action extravaganza, and people meeting her kawaiiko self might have trouble believing that it is something she wrote and drew.

However,  while her art was a constant thing she used, her webcomic was only mentioned now and again as a background thing. Like she used her fans to get things done and some of her fans actually became her yokai followers later. But there was little discussion of what her webcomic was actually like.

So, here we go.

For the genre, I'm going to say it's a Superhero-Supernatural mixed genre thing to cover the interdimensional action adventure thing.

Setting is "Other World", clearly...though more like "Other Worlds" in this case.

The art style she uses is in the same vein as other shounen such as Ranma 1/2, Dragonball Z, One Piece, Bleach, or other such. Though being slightly distorted to give a surreal feel. I'm feeling that Juri does weird perspective things along the lines of Bakemonogatari. The mood is idealistic, she tries to give a story of heroism and optimism with a mix of great triumphs over terrible dangers.

So, on describing the narrative build-up. I ended up rolling 6, roll twice and mix, twice. So I got three keywords: Quick, Intense, and Hidden. So I'm going to say that her stories quickly dive into action and adventure with intense story arcs that are immediately obvious, but with cleverly hidden subplots that build and build in the background until she suddenly smacks you in the face with them.

For key features of the webcomic, I'm going to go with Fight Scenes, Hidden Depths, Character Development, and Strangeness. Juri likes doing things slightly off key, likes intense action, but, as we already noted, she also likes putting hidden lines of story and deep character development (which is probably part of the hidden depths).

I'm thinking I'll skip the romance section of the charts. Juri just doesn't have the interest in romance plots that I do. I figure she has fun watching what her fans invent in terms of romance however.

For her cast, she has a mix of a main character and an ensemble cast. So, she has one main character traipsing around different realities and dimensions and dealing with different groups of people that keep popping in and out of the story. For the villains it's a mix of Monster of the Week (where most of the surface layer episodic action stuff happens) and Four is Death, where a group of four major villains are the main antagonists for the hidden depths.

The primary protagonist is a Blood Knight who really enjoys fighting for the sake of fighting. Part of me is tempted to make that protagonist another character of mine named Ryoko who is a cheerful, friendly, polite character who absolutely loves martial arts and friendly battle. She also has heavy anxiety issues and a problem where her fear causes her to produce toxic chi and pushes her into a semi berserk state. Heck, why not, Ryoko Satomi is officially the primary protagonist of Combat Hurricane.

For the four major villains hiding behind the various individual stories I rolled up: The Emperor, The Brute, The Crime Lord, and The Noble Demon. Since I'm putting Ryoko as the protagonist, I'll say the Brute is a character that I've long planned would be the deciding point between whether she masters her power or his consumed by it. A brutal villain with the power to induce fear in people who likes terrorizing people. The Brute isn't stupid but is something of a tool used by the other three.

I don't need to come up with more details about Ryoko or the Brute, so let's go with the other three villains. Start with the Emperor. They are a shapeshifting witch whose cover is being in some sort of business. The Crime Lord is a traveler with power armor. The Noble Demon is a werewolf supersoldier. So, I'm seeing the Emperor as a person who looks at the chaos of the multiverse and thinks it needs to be brought under control. They've been telling themself that this is for the benefit of all who lived in the various realities but it is more for their own love of power and personal anxieties. The Crime Lord is a wandering dimensional pirate who plays at being in opposition to the Emperor but is secretly working with the Emperor for their own profit and likes the idea of eventually being the head of some sort of secret police. The Noble Demon is someone who has bought into the Emperor's outward cause and allowed themselves to be experimented on so that his lycanthropic nature has been enhanced or added to with other capabilities.

I'll leave it off here, I think.
