5e Changeling Inquisitor (Paladin of Vengeance)

There is no particular character I'm basing this off of, but the idea is that the character investigates matters for their church superiors. his was, historically the intended purpose of the historical inquisition. I am heading for a Paladin of Vengeance which will heighten the stereotype of the grim and suspicious investigator type.

I'm using the 15, 14, 13, 12, 11, 10 array and using a custom background of "Investigator" based on the rules in the book for creating backgrounds 2 Skills, 2 Tools or Languages.

Reasoning: Charisma is the paladin's major ability, but an attack stat, either Strength or Dexterity is also important. However, I decided to go for a non-optimal choice and put Intelligence high at the start to match the concept of an investigator.

2nd to 5th Level

2nd Level - Fighting Style: Defense, Spellcasting, Divine Smite, +6 HP

3rd Level - Divine Health, Sacred Oath: Vengeance, Channel Divinity, Abjure Enemy, Vow of Enmity +6 HP

4th Level - Ability Score Improvement, Ritual Caster: Wizard, +6 HP
Alarm, Find Familiar

5th Level - Extra Attack, Proficiency Bonus +3, +6 HP

Reasoning: Paladin is one of the classes that has no built in versatility past choosing their oath.I am taking Ritual Caster here to give the character a bit more flexibility on his prepared spell list. This also allows him to pick up some rituals from other spell lists. I have one more feat in mind, which means this character will likely be low on some Abilities and need items to make up for the lack in  ability scores. Since recasting the Find Familiar ritual causes the familiar to change shape, I imagine that the changeling's familiar will be almost as changeable as the character is.

Reasoning: Cure Wounds just because healing is always good to have on hand. Detect and Protection from Good and Evil are useful to a character based around the idea of seeking out forces of evil where-ever they might be. Detect Magic and Detect Poison and Disease are castable as rituals, so they do not need to be prepared.

6th to 10th Level

6th Level - Aura of Protection (10 ft), +6 HP

7th Level - Relentless Avenger, +6 HP

8th Level - Ability Score Improvement: +2 Charisma, +6 HP

9th Level - Proficiency Bonus +4, +6 HP

10th Level - Aura of Courage (10ft), +6 HP

Reasoning: Increasing the base stats now. Note, despite the fact I envision this as a grim and suspicious investigator, the same stats can easily be played with a more light-hearted but still devoted and intelligent type of investigator.

Reasoning: The Observant feat ups either Wisdom or Intelligence, I'm choosing Wisdom. It also allows this character to read lips at a distance and increases their passive Perception and Investigate scores.

Reasoning: Added two more spells to the list this time. Divine Favor to again address the low stat issue. Locate Creature in order to have the ability to track down individuals.

Reasoning: As said, there is little to no variation between different paladins past level 3. Once you make the third level choice, you have very limited level up options from then on out, most everything else is on rails for you.
