Sang-Yoon Koga - Scion of Susano-O - The Trickster Fox

Scions of the Second Refinement

Background: At an early age, Sang-Yoon's mother died leaving her without known family and sending her into the system of the South Korean government. Unfortunately, the office that handled her case was rife with corruption and she ended up sold to a pink house to be raised as a prostitute. For protection she came to form close ties with some of the other young women and eventually, she led a successful effort to expose the brothel and the corrupt officials supplying it with children.

Unwilling to continue as they had been, Sang-Yoon and her closest friends began to put on street performances using the sleight of hand skills they had learned for survival to entertain passers-by. Eventually, they started adapting various folk tales into magic acts and getting hired on to bigger venues. Underneath this, they found themselves occasionally drawn into further instances were someone needed somebody to stand in for them.

Description: Sang-Yoon is a Korean-Japanese woman with reddish-brown hair owing to a kitsune ancestor in the far past on her mortal side (something my GM revealed to me in the course of play). Despite her terrible past, she always manages to keep a cheerful face at most times. Her performance costume is a fox-girl outfit that walks the line between appealing to children and sexy for adults. Her friends have similar costumes but are tiger, dog, rabbit, and mouse rather than fox. She has a costume tail she uses as well. She found it in a pawn shop and immediately felt drawn to it.

Divine Parent: Susano'o

Origin Level

Calling: Trickster *

Primary: Role Path - The Trickster Fox, Entertainer and Hero - Culture, Leadership, Subterfuge
Connections: Parents, innkeepers, convention organizers
Access: Any place that might find need for an entertainer.
Sa-Yoo and her friends have all found themselves drawn to specific animal roles and while all of them have a bit of a trickiness to them, Sa-Yoo is the trickster of the group. She is involved in most of their acts at least as secondary character and in their more dangerous activities she makes most of the plans. Looking up the folk-tales, organizing the performances, and planning the tricks has taught her a few things.
Secondary: Origin Path - Raised in a Pink House - Empathy, Subterfuge, and Persuasion
Connections: Korean Child Services, Prostitutes, Korean Vice Police
Access: Brothels
While they have no desire to go back to that life, Sa-Yoo and company are familiar with and sympathetic to the life of a prostitute. They are understandably not popular with the more vicious and exploitative brothels. The life has Sa-Yoo to read people, ingratiating, and deceptive.

Tertiary: Pantheon Path - Child of Chaos and Storm - Culture, Persuasion, Athletics
Connections: Oni, Kitsune, Kumiho, and Reynards
Access: Martial Training
Ever since she and her friends got themselves free of their life of slavery, they have been seemingly stumbling over fox spirits from as far west as Norway and as far south as Hong Kong. Not to mention a handful of susano-o's oni drinking buddies. They usually seem to have some lesson to teach her before wandering on again.

    • Kim Ji-Hwa, The Guardian Dog
      • Ji-Hwa plays the part of the Dog in their stories and sets herself as the primary physical guardian of the group. She is very alert and watchful for danger.

    • ** There when it's needed: Once per session you may Spend 1 Momentum for the Lost Knife to appear within reach for that action. Other players may spend additional Momentum to give an action take that round with the knife a +1 Enhancement for each point spent to a maximum of +3.
    • * Flaw: If the knife is frequently missing or lost. It'll get confiscated at airports, forgotten in hotel rooms, fall out of bags, and other such things. The GM can declare it missing or otherwise taken away once per session and it will stay missing until the next time it is absolutely needed at which point it will suddenly be noticed, somehow have come to the area by a bizarre chain of events that is usually never learned.

Hero Level

Upon reconnecting with her daughter, who was somewhat...exasperated...that she was allowed to suffer through slavery and abuse because he forgot about her, Sa-Yoo's career as a stage magician started blowing up and her heroic habits began to tackle larger foes. She eventually acquired a group of followers and stage crew that worked with her.
