The Skeptical Magistrate - Shiba Guardian - Legend of Five Rings 5e

Giri: To investigate signs of dark magic.

6. What does your character long for and how might this impede their duty?

Seeks someday to be granted a province to administer and oversee. As such they are often tempted to gain favor with either the Clan or Imperial families. Would not be opposed to marrying into another clan for the chance at administering such a province.

Ninjo: To become a governor or provincial lord.

7. What is your character's relationship with their clan?

The character is a bit more worldly than most of his Clan, but finds their values mostly align with his own. +5 Glory

Does not give much concern for Bushido besides a guideline of behavior. Does not attach serious moral or spiritual importance to it. +1 to Commerce as they have studied how to administer an economy.

9. What is your character's greatest accomplishment so far?

Was successful in a duel against a minor Kakita Duelist. It was a duel to first blood. Many account it as a matter of luck. Famously Lucky

10. What holds your character back the most in life?

Part of the character's problems in committing fully to Bushido is the fact that they are often incapable of detecting the supernatural unless it is something extremely blatant. Momoku. This is especially problematic given his duty to investigate rumors of dark magic. Presumably, he was given that duty to perhaps teach him the truth and value of such spiritual concerns.

Despite his worldly view, the character finds generosity and charity give him a feeling of peace and worth. Generosity is his Passion.

He attaches heavier than normal importance to material goods than is seemly for a samurai. As such, Materialism is his biggest anxiety.

13. Who has your character learned the most from in their life?

He learned heavily from one of the key servants in his father's estate. A person who showed him just how much effort and work went into proper administration and necessities which many samurai ignore to maintain their devotion to Bushido. It also heightened his belief that he would be a superior lord to many.

  • Ebisu's Blessing
  • Delusions of Grandeur
  • Government +1

14. What do people notice first on encountering you?

His clothes are high quality, but they are incredibly plain and practical, more in fitting with a commoner than a samurai. There is one concession he makes to his heritage and that's an obi in Phoenix colors.

15. How does your character react to stressful situations?

He clenches his jaw and crosses his arms over his chest.

16. What are your character's relationships with other clans, families, or traditions?

He actually gets along well with the merchants of the Mantis clan and Yasuki family as they have similar worldly attitudes to his own and some of them feel that if he were to get his desire of ruling a province that he would make a sympathetic ear. He received a jian as a gift from a Yasuki artisan.

17. How would your character's parents describe them?

His parents would describe him as a heathen who doesn't understand true value. He has Command +1 due to his interest in leading a province.
