Sentinels of the Multiverse just some thoughts

 Some basic situations.

Turn Order

  1. Villain Turn
  2. Hero Turns (3-5)
  3. Environment Turn
  4. Rinse Repeat

Villain Turn Order

  1. Start of Turn Effects
  2. Play Card
  3. End of Turn Effects

Hero Turn Order

  1. Start of Turn Effects
  2. Play a Card (by default only 1 Card)
  3. Use a Power (by default only 1 Power)
  4. Draw a Card (if you skip BOTH steps 2 and 3 you draw an extra card)
  5. End of Turn Effects

Sequencing is important:

If you cast a spell that hits all targets and there is an enemy that reduces damage to Villains, you want to target that first if possible, then remaining villains take full damage. Also, if a new target gets summoned while the AoE is still happening...they WILL get hit by the AoE.

Some game terms:

One-Shot - A card that is played and goes into the trash.

Onoging - A card that is played and remains in play until destroyed. Will usually provide a passive benefit, a power, or a triggered event. Some ongoings destroy themselves at a set point.

Equipment - A card that is played and remains in play until destroyed. Will usually provide a passive benefit, a power, or a triggered event. Some equipment destroys itself at a set point.

Power - A term that appears on some cards meaning this effect can be triggered during your "Use a Power" step.

Hand - The cards you can play.

Trash - The discard.

Deck - The cards that have not been drawn yet. When the deck reaches 0 and you have to draw, you shuffle the discard back into a new deck.

Discard - Taking a card from your hand and placing it in the trash. This can be forced by cards or it can be done voluntarily to fuel effects.

Destroy - Taking a card from in play and placing it in the trash. This can be forced by other cards or it can be done voluntarily to fuel or trigger effects.

Environment Card - A card from the environment deck.

Villain Card - A card from the villain deck.

Hero Card - A card from a hero deck.

Target - A card that has Health

Character Card - A target representing the title character(s) of the deck. Some decks have multiple character cards. (The Chairman, The Southwest Sentinels, The Ennead....)

Non-Character Card - A target representing minions, gear, familiars, or side kicks to the Character of the deck.

Reveal - Look at a card from a deck.

Redirect - Ability to change the target of damage.

------

Some terms I use:

Shut-Down - Cards or effects that prevent targets from doing damage or playing cards. (Tachyon's Hypersonic Assault, Legacy's Take Down, Haka's Ground Slam, Nightmist's Mist Bound...etc)

Environment/Ongoing Destruction - Ability to remove Environment or Ongoing cards (Tachyon's Blinding Speed, Fanatic's Consecrated Ground, Nightmist's Planar Banishment...) Key to keeping a villain under control.

Card Draw - Ability to grant yourself or other players the ability to draw extra cards. (Tachyon's "Team Leader" variant is the queen here)

Action Granting - The ability to gain or grant the chance for heroes to play extra cards or use extra powers.
