Bounded Waves - Caress Melani Journal - Session 12

Caress looked over the flowing images of cats stalking and lazing along a river bed as they sat in the camp. The druid was leading them by twists and turns that maybe a ranger could follow, but which already had her turned around. She wondered if Lyra was having an easier time keeping track of things given she hailed from the Feywild, but had to admit that she'd only heard vague stories about that place, it might be perfectly signposted and easy to navigate.

She focused herself again on the images now embedded into her skin and wondered if the images had come from her or if they were something that Reidoth had built into the enchantment. Would the images be shadows for Mythram or the moonlight and rays for Lyra. And then there was the question of what it could possibly be for Ravyn.

Tattoos with dragon blood and magic for ink.

It wasn't ink though, it was magic, pure and simple. She could feel it thrumming just under her skin. It wasn't a heat or the feeling of shock that came from a wizard's lightning. It was a sort of vibration not quite in the physical world. It was similar to what she felt when she reached out to the divine font through Sharess's grace. But not quite the same... the proper words eluded her. There were always people that could speak better than she did when it came to important things like this. She was charming and had a sense for what people needed to hear and be guided through. But when it came to anything technical or knowledge-based it was a matter of "it's like this but not exactly like that."

Caress sighed. Yuan-ti were renowned, perhaps infamous for their clever minds and she constantly felt like she was disappointing people within moments of meeting them. Perhaps it was something to work on. In the meantime, she'd continue her task of protecting people and helping them work through the worries they faced. Other people could be intelligent and lore-masters. It wasn't in her to do be that person.

"We'll reach Wave Echo cave in the next dawn," Reidoth declared then, bringing Caress out of her reverie.

"I'll prepare then for the trials ahead."

The stirges came down out of the cavern ceilings and swarmed around Caress. She had been watching for spiders and drow after they found the body of the dwarf earlier, not these things. She dodged the first few, but there were just so many of them and some of the creatures slipped in. When her turn came, she lashed and seared two out of the air even as others slipped past her to harass the rest of her team.

Lyra had apparently enchanted Mythram and herself as the rogue swooped in breathing a cascade of chill air out of her mouth to bring down more of the abhorrent bloodsucking creatures. Ravyn's imp appeared out of nowhere and attracted more of the creatures.

When the last of the beasts had fallen, she took her magic to address the wounds suffered by herself and Ravyn.

"Let's keep going." Mythram said.

"Understood, but so you're aware I don't think I could heal much more without a rest. Perhaps we should be cautious in case we encounter a bunch of skeletons or the like."

A minute later and they were facing skeletons.

Dwarven skeletons now.
