Background:

The producer of a horror movie was getting desperate to make sure his movie turned out quite impressive and had begun to bastardize several rituals of Netjer sorcery. Among other things, he was having troubles finding someone for the part of the mummy. Fortunately for him, but unfortunately for her, he encounter Sitre Monroe. She had never really been into religion so when he started talking about prayers or blessings to make her make-up that much more real, she didn't really question it. She needed the money and the job, to be honest, and wasn't being as safe as she should have been.

Wibbly-Wobbly and Drunky-Wunky - Yakki Koto Kiku - Session 2

Session 1: That didn't go according to plan.

It looked like a busy day for the cops.

They put me in a cell with sorority girls.

Drunk sorority girls.

There were drunk footballers on the other side.

For a moment, I thought about starting a bit of a catfight and slipping out while the cops were dealing with it.

This is the index page for the ongoing adventures of my scion character Lily Watson. A young woman unaware that she's a scion of Inari or that the weird fox-person that she accidentally freed and is now bound to is another incarnation of said God.

That didn't go according to plan - Yakki Koto Kiku - Session 1

"I swear, I have no idea why everybody is freaking out. I was just looking for my earring and in the lost and found and everybody freaked out."

My attempt at playing this off as a misunderstanding is a bit undone by the fact that three security guards are currently struggling to hold me down. To my credit, I don't usually have to worry about security guards and cops. I've had to avoid competitors to the team of aggressive archaeologists I was part of and I've had to dodge animals, and traps. And occasionally there are weird things like zombies.

Or, you know, ancient fox people that'll bind you to service in exchange for getting you out of a collapsing tomb.

Acacia Liuzhi - Shen Scion of Yamaraja - The Beautiful Death

Background: It is unclear just in what way Acacia is Yamaraja's scion. It is known that Acacia's mother was a mortal by the name Mircea Ruskin who was an investigator into ghosts and the underworld. Some think she offered her child up to Yamaraja as a bargaining chip, others suggest that she is the busy god's actual daughter. Neither Acacia or Yamaraja care enough about the matter to tell people what the truth of the matter is and Acacia might not even know herself.

Regardless of Acacia's origin, it is apparent that Mircea did not value whatever she got out of the relationship as she vanished when Acacia was still young. Of course, Yamaraja was still too busy to deal with the issues of raising a child and there was an unwillingness to see her consigned to the system for orphans and thus Acacia was raised in the Thousand Willows Academy, a place built around the idea of raising scions and denizens in safety while preparing them for the world at large.

Acacia excelled in interpersonal skills and studying the religions and cultures of other pantheons, but she fell into the rather stereotypical niche of the nerd who is rubbish at athletics. Fortunately, she had no lack for friends that she could call upon to help her do those things that required a bit more brute force.

Skylar Thomas - Scion of Ares - The Inevitable Conflict

Background: For as long as she could remember, Skylar had watched violence simmering just beneath her father's eyes. Her mother had never been afraid of him, but she'd watched as he constantly struggled to keep it turned away from his family. He'd been a cop for a while before his temper lost him his shield, punching the wrong man in a suit. Afterwards he constantly seemed to struggle with some sort of work that clearly seemed to involve danger and fighting because he always seemed to come back battered and bruised to one extent or another.

When people came to their house, her father killed most of them, but not before he and Skylar's mother were mortally wounded themselves. The last of the grim and serious men was seriously wounded himself and reaching for Skylar when she dodged aside to grab up the knives her father had been using to fight. And suddenly she knew exactly how to strike, it was so clear in her mind. Unfortunately, her body was still that of a teenager and the most she was able to achieve was stunning the killer long enough for her to escape.

The nightmares started when she first settled down and paid for a night at a hotel where she called an old friend of her father's from the police. Coarse whispers and the invasion of alien bouts of rage and bloodlust. The nightmares woke her up in time to hear the first sounds of killers breaking into her hotel room. The knives' instincts once again drew her out of the room, and she started her life on the road.

Asya Matsushita II - Scion of Kangiten (Ganesh) - Inheritor of Legends

Background: When she was twelve years old, Asya Matsushita and her mother were rundown in the crosswalk by a drunk driver at the wheel of a truck. She only barely survived by the combined efforts of doctors and the supernatural resources her sorcerer father was able to muster. This is, at least, what she has believed for the past eight years.

In reality, the first Asya Matsushita was killed out right. Caught in the throes of grief and desperation, her father Sota Matsushita set out to build a replacement. The ashes of the mother and daughter were mixed in with the ashes and melted fragments of many minor artifacts. He didn't particularly believe he'd accomplish anything other than a shallow likeness programmed with some responses. However, the intensity of his emotion had drawn the attention of greater powers than one mortal sorcerer who decided to take pity on the man.

That was how Asya the Second was born. Due to the materials that went into her creation she has remnants of memories that had been imprinted on the objects by their previous owners. She attributes the fragmentary memories she inherited from her elder sister as being hers and thinks that she must have lost many in the accident. She attributes the memories of her sister's mother as re-imagined stories she had heard. And the memories inherited from the small host of heroes whose greatness leaked into the objects that created her she attributes to grand dreams and a great imagination.

Most of the items that went into her creation were minor objects that had never been intentionally enchanted. They had merely taken on active spirits due to having a long history with some legendary figure or another. However, at least one major item was melted down into her and it was the call of this artifact as it allowed itself to be melted down into its components that attracted Kangiten. Durandal, the blade wielded famously by both Hector at Troy and Roland in service to Charlemagne, is now part and parcel of the young woman.

Kiyone Harnen - Scion of Benzaiten - Amaterasu's Eclipse

The background and description of this character are recopied for convenience but identical to the version of this character that is an Amaterasu scion. The idea of her as an Amaterasu scion dated back to Scion 1st Edition and before there were stats for Benzaiten. So this is a version of her generated as if she had Amaterasu as a Guide rather than parent.

Background: Kiyone Harnen was raised by her father, an African-American marine as she was taken from base to base. Eventually, she entered the marines herself becoming a martial arts instructor in the MCMAP program. Her effort to always be taken seriously and put on the best possible performance had her achieve some level of attention from the Corps PR department. Unfortunately, her strive to be a serious soldier and break boundaries started to worry her divine mother. Especially as tensions between the US and other nations started to rise. As such, her mother, Benzaiten, engineered a scandal which trapped Kiyone in a position of seemingly flaunting her tastes in relationship out in front of the judgmental eyes of the public. This scuttled her military career and seemingly made her safe from danger.

From there, Kiyone was soon offered a job as a stunt consultant for a Japanese film company, possibly another plan by her mother.  The job of stunt coordinator moved toward her being a stunt woman, though her unique appearance meant she often played stand out minions. Eventually, she hit upon the role of a recurring antagonist in a TV drama and series of films until said character did a Heel Face Turn and spin off into her own drama and films. It was as her fame began to spread that she caught Amaterasu's eye and the sun goddess began to question Benzaiten as to why Kiyone had not yet been tapped as a warrior for the Kami.

Dae McCallister - Satyr and Chosen Scion of Zeus - The Stormy Conclusion

Background: Dae McCallister is the daughter of a pair of military meteorologists and grew up moving from base to base. By happenstance, she and her family tended to get assigned to towns and stations that would soon get hit by a major weather-based disaster. The combination of her parents profession and her frequent exposure to dangerous weather gave her an odd relationship with weather. She quite loves the science and the sheer beauty and power of the systems but at the same time seeks to find ways to help humanity deal with it better.

While attending college she was crossing the campus one night and took a wrong turn bringing her into a kegger being carried out by a co-ed fraternity made up almost entirely of denizens. By the time anybody realized that she wasn't supposed to be there, two things stopped them from sending her out among the mortals...well three things given the chance to party with a mortal was always welcome.

Role: Scout’s Luck: Good, Bad and Strange – Sneak – Athletics, Subterfuge, Technology.

As a tomb raider, Lily has always had something of a talent for working her way past guardians or undoing the odd trap or two. However, her abilities have been mostly unsophisticated talent and good luck. It was bound to turn against her sooner or later and there was only a little skill to catch her fall. It’s hard to tell whether or not that’s happened yet.

Origin: Raider of Tombs and Dodger of Curses – Adventurer – Occult, Close Combat, Integrity

Lily ran away from home at the age of fourteen and fell in with a band of explorers of dubious ethics. By the time she was eighteen she had lived through a number of adventures and seen her share of strange things. Things happened and the group split up and she decided to trace her own lead. One of her former colleagues snatched the treasure out from under her leaving her to deal with the traps…and the being that had been sealed within.

The kitsune has smelled it even if it hasn’t woken up yet. The younger of these thieves was certainly the more interesting of the two. They were near enough awakened to recognize their own child when faced with it, though certainly not through this incarnation. The long-sealed incarnation of Inari hasn’t let on what they’ve realized yet, Lily has yet to prove herself after all.

Spicy Pineapple - Cage of the Demiurge - Session 3

Tabasssum Wazir looked down from the action to the camera and noticed a black screen remembering something about the camera...namely that it was digital. 

"Ah, fuck." Out loud he called out. "Hey, Hilde, I'm sorry, but the camera is digital! I'm sorry, everything is ruined."

Hilde growled from where she was being crushed in a giant gorilla's hand. "Oh, that's just it!" She struggled and pushed herself free to twist away and force the clattering Voltron imitation into an awkward angle before it twisted about, canceling out her efforts almost casually before tossing her across the battlefield. The sound of someone cheering her on, drew Hilde's eyes below to see where Hayden was calling out towards her and managing a rather amazingly acrobatic cheer routine.

Sang-Yoon Koga - Scion of Susano-O - The Trickster Fox

Background: At an early age, Sang-Yoon's mother died leaving her without known family and sending her into the system of the South Korean government. Unfortunately, the office that handled her case was rife with corruption and she ended up sold to a pink house to be raised as a prostitute. For protection she came to form close ties with some of the other young women and eventually, she led a successful effort to expose the brothel and the corrupt officials supplying it with children. 

Unwilling to continue as they had been, Sang-Yoon and her closest friends began to put on street performances using the sleight of hand skills they had learned for survival to entertain passers-by. Eventually, they started adapting various folk tales into magic acts and getting hired on to bigger venues. Underneath this, they found themselves occasionally drawn into further instances were someone needed somebody to stand in for them.

Scion advancement is done through the acquisition and spending of Experience Points that are acquired over the course of the game. As with other Onyx Path games, Experience Points are rewarded for the accomplishments of goals. In this case they are referred to as Deeds and they function differently enough from Aspirations to deserve the different term.

"Wow," Taba said as they scanned across the landscape from inside the hovercraft. "This place is something else. There's cameras everywhere!"

"Yeah, I told you, they like worship cameras." Hilde said into the radio mic she was wearing.

"Why are you outside again?" the black-eyed djinn asked.

"Zeusdottir is a jeep, jeeps go on the deck. They are not allowed in the cockpit." The dark-haired pilot noted calmly.

"A jeep?" Taba asked questionably.

Abberations in the Analysis - Crossroads Campaign - Session 16 and 17

We came out into the Center on the circle established as a firm target to receive plane shifts and immediately started calling for a cleric. An older dwarf came to use quickly enough and we took Wendylly to the chapel for the ritual. We quickly made some explanation on the nature of the task we were undertaking and the dwarf made mention of the seal and added some other details implying that he had been on the site some time ago himself. Our focus at the time was on Wendylly but I kept that bit of information in mind.
